Tek Tuesday - 3x3 Note Card Tote

Hi Everyone!!

If you're looking for the Feature Friday Challenge featuring Maria Bell go HERE. But wait! Why not incorporate a Tek Tuesday project into your challenge entry to win a FREE image from The Cafe? Yep, that's right, FREE!

Welcome to another fabulous Tek-Tuesday!!! I have to tell you...I LOVE researching for these projects!!! I find THE coolest things to bring to you!! This week we're going to create a 3x3 Note Card tote. It would make a GREAT gift (SO EASY TO MAKE!!) for a teacher, neighbor, co-worker, anyone really!!!
I've started with a pic of the basic supplies necessary. One piece of cardstock (or 2 if you prefer a solid tote) and one piece of DP. I chose to have Designer Paper as my tote base but you could easily use the same color cardstock or choose another solid color. That is entirely up to you!!

You'll also need a the following:
  • ruler
  • pencil
  • trimmer
  • scoring blade
  • 1/16" punch or piercing tool
  • 2 brads of any kind
  • whatever image you'd like to use
And I promise....it's EASY!!! And making 3"X3" note cards just COULDN'T be any simpler!! =)
Here I've cut my tote base at 7 1/2" x 3 1/4". (I'm just showing you both sides of my tote base with the DP)
I then cut what will become my tote sides (where the handle will attach) at 8 1/2" x 2 1/4".
I then take my card base - the designer paper piece and SCORE 3 1/4" from either end.
So your card base will now look like this:
I then worked on the tote handle. This is cut at 8" x 1". If you wanted to use a decorative border punch for the sides of the handle then cut this at 8" x 1 1/4" to give yourself a little extra room. I simply wanted to distress and sew my handle so I cut it a tad smaller.
I distressed the edges lightly and using chocolate brown thread, zig zag stitched the entire perimeter of the handle. It looks pretty and adds extra stability.
I used a textured, champagne colored cardstock.
The next step is to score the sides of the tote which is the orange piece of cardstock referenced above at 8 1/2" x 2 1/4". You will score this at the following measurements:

1 5/8", 2 5/8" then at
5 7/8" and 6 7/8" (yes I had to mark this on my trimmer because I'm TERRIBLE with measurements!!!)
Here is what your finished tote sides will look like.
The next step is to find the center of each 1" section on your scored cardstock and measure 1/2" down and make a mark where you will then...
punch the 1/16" or piercing tool through.
Add adhesive as shown (I'd definitely use something like red-liner or sticky-strip)
You then want to peel off the backing of the sticky strip and wrap your tote sides (the orange paper) around the base (the designer paper).
You'll end up with this.
Now attach the handle with any brads you like.
One side...
Then the other...and VOILA!!! We have a tote!!!

Now...you don't HAVE to use 3x3 notecards in here...you could fill it with a favorite tea, small candies, a gift card, the possibilities are endless!!
So cute, right??
Now decorate!!! I kept mine very simple in terms of decor because I love this fall paper and really wanted it to stand out. But the second I decided to do this project I knew I wanted to use Timid Tulip. I've ALWAYS loved this image.
Here are some basic 3" x 3" notecards that I made to go with this ensemble.
I colored her with my Copics and gold paint pen, trimmed her out and added her to the chocolate ribbon that I tied around my tote. She is just TOO cute!

I hope you enjoyed my tutorial today!!! Please don't hesitate to leave any questions in the comment section about how to make this and I'll be happy to answer!!

I hope everyone has a great holiday week if you're celebrating!!!

XOXO-

p.s. My research for this project came from an SCS tutorial by Regina Andari. (thank you!)

Tutorial Tuesday - One set of folds - 2 cards

Hi, Its Tutorial time again, this time its from me, (lilacanglia) and I was asked to do a tutorial on pop cards, so here it is, hope its of help to you, and you have a go at doing it, and including it with our Friday Challenge,
you will need a piece of card stock that measures 4"wide x 8" long, embellishments of your choice, my choice of digi image is this cute pax the penguin from the Character Cafe store.
and for the second card later in this post just double the amounts of card stock.
Here above is a drawn (by myself) a diagram to help you along.

You need to measure and score a line at 2" and 4",
then mark along the long side of the card at 6",
along the top of the card mark along the short side 2" which is the centre of the top.
Score from the centre top mark at a angle to the 6" mark down the long sides of the card,
then score from the 6" marks down across to the other side at the edge of the 2" score line,
do this from both sides, as you can see in the photo

fold along score lines.
For the single card shown below I normally cut of the top two corners, or you can fold them behind and stick them for extra strength.

I have marked where you use glue or tape to stick this to the bottom.
(ignore this sticky bit if you are doing the second card shown later in this post)
this should then look like the card below,
I used sakura pens on this cute pax penguin image.

Here is a close up of the pop up part with pax the penguin on it,
these fold flat for easy posting as well.

For the second card you do the same as for the card above, but using two pieces of card.
and this time I do cut the top corner off.
once folded you should have two pieces that look like the photo below.
Put tape on ONE of the diamonds like shown in photo.
Then stick one diamond on top of the other to make one card.

Decorate and embellish how you would like,
I have used silver glitter mirri board, and the cute penguin again,

Here is a close up of the image, this time using sakura pens again but in different colours.

Thanks for stopping by today,
and hope this has helped some of you.

Look forward to seeing some these cards included in our Friday Challenge.

Any more ideas for a tutorial using digi images please let me know.
Hugs

It's Time for Feature Friday's Challenge - This week make a 3 Piece gifts set that contains 3-D items in it!!!

Happy Friday Everyone!!!!

I am so excited this week it was my turn to pick the Feature Friday Challenge with The Character Cafe Design Team!!!!  We only get to do this once in our 6 month term so hope I do a good job on it!!!

Every Friday we have Feature Fridays and each week one of the DT girls issues the challenge to half the team, the other half the team head out to Blog/Stamp land and find a challenge to play in!!!  How fun right???  So Kendra and Kelly issued me a 3-D challenge and I choose to make it a 3 Piece Gift Set with at least one of the items being 3-D, they could all be 3-D or just one of them, but one of the 3 pieces had to be 3-D.

So this week on the Challenge Team for my Challenge we have these girls playing along:
Angie...Deanne...Diane...Piali...Rachel....Heather (Me)

This set of girls headed out to Blog/Stamp world and found a challenge of their own they have posts up to though so don't forget to go to their blogs and check them out as well!!!
Billie...Sara...Annamarie "Lola"...Sheri ..."Fink"

So Here are the Creations from our Lovely DT members:

Deanne:

Deanne's Set is just to adorable I do not know where to begin I love this image Christmas Scamp is so adorable don't you think???  I also adore Deanne's orniment she gave us a tutorial earlier this week she just totally rocks these orniments out!!!!  Seriously love how she transformed that tin (is it a prima flower tin I wonder I have 2 just like it only not near as cute as this one decorated up!!!!

Piali:

I adore Piali's use of all that Glitter and the Nesties shape throughout the projects and the bright colors Way to Go!!!!

Rachel:

Seriously is this not the coolest gift for those pre-teen or teen age girls what girl would not adore getting somthing like this as a gift???  Rachel you can send this one to Kansas I love it!!!

Diane:

Diane totally rocked this challenge!!!!  I do not think she could have been any more creative if she tried check out those two tins and all the things she put in them all I can say is WOW!!!!!!

Angie:

I love Angies use of color and I think this is an awesome Birthday set you need one of these around the house handy for those last minute invitations or parties!!!

Heather (That's Me)

I decided to make a 3 piece gift set based on the card I did for last weeks new release Blog Hop using my Santa's List Image and my Christmas Ali Image.   I also took some inspiration off of what my neighbor and I have been doing all week preparing for a Craft Show at the Hospital I used to work for and we made 15 Dozen Home Made (100 times better than store bought) Chocolate Covered Cherries, 10 dozen Orange Cream Patties, and the best Pepermint Bark I have ever had!!  So my Basket is one of the Baskets we made to sell at the Craft Show it has 6 Chocolate Covered Cherries and 4 Orange Cream Patties in it.  I have not decided what I want to put in the Tote/Treat Box I made, and the Card is just like the card I made for last weeks Blog Hop Have you been Naughty or Nice Card.

I forgot to take a picture of all 3 items together but I got the two treat holders and my card seperately

Below are the stages of how I made the Larger Treat Box

Take a solid 12 x 12 piece of Card Stock and score it at 4" and 8" on all four sides The score the corners diagonally then take the patterned paper and create this pattern Top picture inside of box bottom picture outside of box.

Add eyelets to each triangle piece of PP and then take 24" of twine, ribbon, or twill and run it through the eyelets and tie a bow and you have your treat box so cool hungh???

Front View Santa was on the other side

Here is my Basket we put the Cherries and Pepermint Paties in to sell at the Craft Fair I cut out all the material to make 19 of these I think I finished assembling 9 of them today!!!

Side View

Top view so you can see the cherries

Several of the Baskets with Cherries and Orange Cream Patties in them.  For some reason Teal and Tourqouise Card Stock never photographs well.  the Teal Baskets are a really rich royal teal color here they look really muted!!!!

Chocolate Covered Cherries packaged in 3's no Basket.
I think it is so cool that without knowing anything about each others projects we all went with way different images and way different projects I love these girls the talent on this team is just simply AMAZING!!!!

Now how could you not want to paly along in the challenge this week?????  Best part when you are done with the challenge you have a gift set for a friend or a birthday what can be better than that right???

If you play along please enter a link to your creation in Mr. Linky below.

Prizes this week to the winner of the challenge is:

The prize is  2 images (of your choice), 15% off discount in The Character Cafe Store, and the winner will get a winners badge for their blog (as well as their card will be showcased!)

I can not wait to see what you come up with!!!  Hope to see you play along this week and have a very, very, Stampendous Friday Everyone!!!!

I will be at a Craft Fair from 6am to 5pm and I still have things to finish off and it is almost midnight so I am thinking I might get to sleep from about 2am to 5am!!!!  Uuugggghhh!!!!  Thanks to all those years on Night Shift at the Hospital working in nursing I can handle that but I am finding the older I get the harder it is to do it!!!!
